Announcements 2006 Silver Professors Announced NYU hails ‘perfect gift’ that will transform FAS The Julius Silver Legacy
In 2002 the estate of Julius Silver provided NYU with a spectacular gift, which not only strengthens the University as a whole, and Arts and Science in particular, but also recognizes the outstanding scholars who have made NYU one of the greatest research and teaching centers in the country.  That recognition is in the form of named chairs, known as the Silver Professorships.   A provision of the gift was to put together a collection of papers written by the distinguished scholars designated as Silver Professors.  The papers, which are available through links on this website, focus on important issues in the scholars’ fields, with an emphasis on the questions and concerns they think will prove the most promising, the most difficult, and the most dominant over the next 5 to 10 years.   I am pleased to present the Silver Dialogues in the Arts and Science and hope you find the collective work of the Silver Professors to be of interest, and find them fitting examples of the remarkable depth and range of the research and scholarship of these extraordinary scholars.
